Hello!

When greeting elders or unfamiliar people, one says բարև ձեզ (barev dzez), which means "hello" in a polite form.

You can always add a form of address: պարոն (paron) + first name or surname — equivalent to “Mr. [name]”, or տիկին (tikin) + first name or surname — equivalent to “Mrs./Ms. [name]”



Who are you?

When getting acquainted, one might ask դուք ո՞վ եք (duk ov ek?) "Who are you?" in a polite form.



Informal “Hi!

Բարև (barev): commonly used with friends, peers, and children.

You can always add the addressee’s name.



– Good morning, my life! 

In the morning, people greet each other with բարի լույս (bari luys) — “good morning.”
Sometimes it is followed by an affectionate word such as կյանքս (kyanqs) — literally “my life!”



– Good afternoon, brother! – Hello!

During the day, people also greet each other with բարի օր (bari or) — “good day / good afternoon.”
Sometimes it may be followed by an affectionate or familiar form of address, such as ախպեր (akhper) — “brother.” 



– Good night, everyone!

When parting at night, people say բարի գիշեր (bari gisher) — “good night.”
It is here extended with բոլորին (bolorin) — “to everyone.”



Goodbye!

When parting, people say ցտեսություն (ts’tesutyun) — “goodbye.”
