Course information

The first of two parts of Level A1.

By completing this course, you will be able to:

1. Develop your first reading and pronunciation skills in Armenian using a limited range of language material and 26 letters of the Armenian alphabet.

2. Gain basic knowledge of

   • the structure of Armenian sentences;
   • Armenian punctuation and intonation;
   • the three-way demonstrative system in Armenian, as opposed, for example, to the two-way system in English: this / that;
   • the specific use of the Armenian definite article.

3. Begin using Armenian independently:

   • form simple affirmative and negative sentences;
   • ask and answer simple questions;
   • give basic information about yourself and your family;
   • understand short questions and remarks on familiar topics;
   • write simple words, sentences, and short answers;
   • communicate within a vocabulary of approximately 200–250 words on topics such as Me and My Family, Weather, Time and Calendar, and related themes.
