These courses are designed for beginners and learners starting Armenian from scratch or with minimal prior knowledge.
They focus on building pronunciation, reading and writing skills, introducing the core grammatical system, and developing basic vocabulary.
By the end of this stage, learners can understand and use Armenian in simple everyday situations.

Armenian for Beginners A1(I)
Basic Courses (A1-A2).

By completing this course, you will be able to:

  1. Develop reading and pronunciation skills
    – work with a limited set of material using 26 letters of the Armenian alphabet.

  2. Gain knowledge of:
    – the structure of Armenian sentences;
    – punctuation marks and intonation patterns in Armenian;
    – the three-tier system of deixis in Armenian (compared to the two-tier system in languages such as English: “this / that”);
    – the specific use of the Armenian definite article (in contrast to English, French, German, and other languages).

  3. Build your own sentences
    – form affirmative and negative statements;
    – ask questions correctly;
    – understand your interlocutor within a limited vocabulary of 200–250 words on topics such as “Me and My Family”, “Weather”, “Time and Calendar”, and similar themes.

Elementary Armenian A1(II)
Basic Courses (A1-A2).

By completing this course, you will be able to:

  1. Develop reading and pronunciation skills

  2. Gain knowledge of:
    – the rhythm of Armenian speech;
    – the devoicing of voiced consonants in Armenian;
    – the declension patterns of kinship terms in Armenian.

  3. Start simple dialogues and respond to basic questions on topics such as “Family”, “Studies”, “Weather”, and similar subjects, using a limited vocabulary of around 500 words.

Waystage A2(I)
Basic Courses (A1-A2).

By completing this course, you will be able to acquire:

  1. enhanced skills in reading Armenian;

  2. knowledge of:

    • the Armenian case system and specific features of declension (“persons” vs. “things”),

    • new types of declension (words denoting concepts of time),

    • certain word-formation patterns (based on the names of colors),

    • the formation and usage of plural forms in Armenian;

  3. the ability to carry on casual conversations on everyday topics such as ‘family’, ‘studies and work’, ‘seasons and weather’, and ‘Armenian cuisine’, with an active vocabulary of about 800 words.

Waystage Plus A2(II)
Basic Courses (A1-A2).

By completing this course, you will be able to acquire:

  1. the ability to read adapted Armenian texts with the help of a dictionary;

  2. knowledge of:

    • the numerical values of Armenian letters,

    • the declension type of words ending in ,

    • pronominal declension,

    • the past imperfect tense;

  3. the ability to engage in moderately complex conversations on topics such as ‘studies, work, profession, and activities’, and to express oneself more freely, including sharing memories, with an active vocabulary of about 1000 words.
