This module represents the first half of the A1 (I) course. Upon completing it, you will be able to achieve the following:

Reading Skills
– Develop the ability to read within a limited range of material, using only 20 letters of the Armenian alphabet. -
Knowledge of Language Structure
– Gain an understanding of:
• the basic structure of Armenian sentences;
• how question marks, exclamation marks, and other punctuation signs are used in writing;
• the three-tier system of deixis (this/that/that over there) in Armenian, as opposed to the two-tier system in languages like Russian (this/that);
• the particular use of the Armenian definite article, in contrast to how articles are used in English, French, German, and similar languages. -
Communicative Skills
– Learn how to construct your own sentences and ask questions correctly, as well as understand your interlocutor — within a limited set of material on the theme “Me and My Family.”

By completing this course, you will be able to:

Develop reading and pronunciation skills
– work with a limited set of material using 26 letters of the Armenian alphabet. -
Gain knowledge of:
– the structure of Armenian sentences;
– punctuation marks and intonation patterns in Armenian;
– the three-tier system of deixis in Armenian (compared to the two-tier system in languages such as English: “this / that”);
– the specific use of the Armenian definite article (in contrast to English, French, German, and other languages). -
Build your own sentences
– form affirmative and negative statements;
– ask questions correctly;
– understand your interlocutor within a limited vocabulary of 200–250 words on topics such as “Me and My Family”, “Weather”, “Time and Calendar”, and similar themes.

By completing this course, you will be able to:

Develop reading and pronunciation skills

Gain knowledge of:
– the rhythm of Armenian speech;
– the devoicing of voiced consonants in Armenian;
– the declension patterns of kinship terms in Armenian. -
Start simple dialogues and respond to basic questions on topics such as “Family”, “Studies”, “Weather”, and similar subjects, using a limited vocabulary of around 500 words.
